Who we are

Oppio Novo is a small family-run farm born in the late 60s. In those years the Severini family moved to Podere Franco, built in the early 1930s and known in the area as Oppio Novo, a short distance from Podere Oppio Vecchio. Oppio in our dialect means poplar, like the plant found on our property. The company is located a few kilometers from Monticchiello, a small village in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2004.

Always promoters of an agriculture that respects the cyclical nature, the company was part of the Agriqualità chain of the Tuscany Region from 2000 to 2015, the year of the conversion to the organic production. We are direct participants in the “Grani Antichi della Val d’Orcia” chain with the production of Verna soft wheat, from which we obtain our stone ground flour type 1 and 2.

Starting from 2020 we developed a new cultivation project, to diversify the company production which was based almost exclusively on the cultivation of cereals. We introduced the activity of bees, practiced until then only on an amateur level, and started a small production of lavender, aromatic herbs, medicinal herbs and saffron. With the arrival of the bees, our lands have dressed in new colors and the air enriched with new scents. An olive grove from which we produce our extra virgin olive oil, a vineyard and a small orchard complete the farm.

The new planning has also provided for the creation of a small laboratory in which we transform the products and where we will be happy to host visitors to get to know and follow the work cycles. We would like to establish an authentic dialogue made up of experiences, to raise awareness and share a project of respect and protection of nature.
